Training
Training and education markets are changing significantly. Distance education and flexible forms of learning are challenging existing traditional classroom based approaches. New technology is driving the demand for new knowledge and skills with existing education and training organisations finding it difficult to keep abreast of the changes.
The delivery process at HiTec tackles these changes head on by combining interactive computer based learning tools with individual tutor support. HiTec specialises in the delivery of tutor supported computer-based training.
Once enrolled, trainees are introduced to the training software. As they become familiar with the process and comfortable with the system they proceed at their own pace through the particular courseware package. Tutor support/motivation is available at all stages to ensure that the trainee achieves the maximum return from the learning experience.
Although you are learning through our specialised training software, it is vital that HiTec staff members are viewed as your ‘assistants-on-call’. They will not interrupt you as you work but will be close by should you need assistance. Ask questions while you work, when you finish, during your coffee break, at tutorials – but do ask questions!
Computer-Based Training (CBT)
Whether used as an alternative or as a complement to traditional classroom training, technology-delivered training provides abundant hands-on practice, while allowing individuals to tailor courses to their individual requirements.
CBT has a number of features and benefits which provide trainees with a more effective way of learning over conventional methods. The key differences between tutor supported CBT and traditional computer training approaches is the quality of training and value for money offered to the trainee.
CBT courses allow individuals to study at their own pace, refresh skills and choose topics of interest specific to their needs. The system brings you back to where you finished the previous session no matter how long it has been. This flexibility allows our trainees to take in the information at their own pace with the option of repeating any given part of the course as they go along.
Computer-based training facilitates learning using a PC and/or interactive video software and discs. The instructional principles underlying CBT are designed to reinforce learning. In a CBT training situation the material is presented in easy stages and the trainee moves from one stage to another by answering questions and understanding.
The correct answers are given immediately afterwards and provision is made for remedial work and further practice if the trainee “gets it wrong”. As technology-delivered training is self-directed and self-paced, the problem of peer pressure or ‘computer muscle flexing’ does not arise!
The computer terminal cannot become impatient or irritated with a slow learner. Likewise, it does not slow down the fast learner. The focus is to ensure and provide verification that learning has taken place. This is achieved by using rigorous continual assessments. These provide immediate instructional feedback on all practice simulation activities.
CBT Learning Benefits
Research into the CBT method concluded that it can provide an 80% increase in retention of training content and a 30% reduction in training time. The main benefits of the method include the following:
• Precision learning Pre-assessment enables areas of proficiency to be bypassed by the trainee thus reducing the your overall training time • Consistency Each trainee receives the same training every time ensuring consistency in the skills obtained • Self paced Trainees progress at their own pace and are not under pressure to “keep up with the teacher or others”. Being able to choose a personal time-frame for the learning increases retention of the training content • Immediate instruction Practical simulations provide immediate feedback with remedial work quickly identified and addressed through further practice. This both reduces student learning time and increases retention of training content. • Practical Each course provides interactive simulations and assessments to provide practical experience ensuring skills can be immediately transferred into the trainee’s daily responsibilities • Flexible Courses can be taken at any time allowing complete flexibility to both the student and the company as workload fluctuates. This provides the optimal balance between business needs and employee development.
Progress monitoring
The trainee completes assessments, provided by the CBT software and by HiTec, continually throughout their course, ensuring that both the trainee and the HiTec facilitator can see how the learning is progressing. This helps to build rapport between the trainer and the trainee. It also offers reassurance to the trainee that his/her learning has not “gone in one ear and out the other”.
When all the course theory has been covered the trainee is given a set of practical tests. When they can perform the tests proficiently they then are ready to sit their exam. The option of an externally-accredited final timed exam follows to confirm the trainee’s competency.
• HiTec is a recognised test centre for European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) training. ECDL approval allows the college to provide a recognised European qualification to its trainees.
• HiTec has put in place a quality system in order to comply with the standards required for FETAC accreditation.
• Microsoft requires Authorised Technical Education Centres (ATEC’s) to employ at least two Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCP) as trainers. This ensures that the right level of support is available to trainees completing Microsoft’s professional training programmes. Contact me today for your free consulation and proposal .
